Informal Oblique is one of a series of complimentary ProtoType™ from phi*JaMaCon associates. In creating commercial fonts, there are many prototypes made, some of which are useful in their own right. Each ProtoType™ release as of 21 April 1991 contains Type 1 hinted (usually) laser fonts along with the TrueType™ equivalents.
To use any ProtoType™ Type 1 font, copy the laser font to your System Folder, and install the screen fonts either in your System file with Font/DA Mover 3.8 or higher, or use MasterJuggler™ or Suitcase™ to install them. To install any ProtoType™ TrueType™ font, copy the suitcase with extension _TT to your system file with FONT/DA Mover 4.1 or above, or use Suitcase™ version 1.2.9 or above. If you like the font, please feel free to use and distribute them. You are not allowed to modify them in any way; for example, you are not allowed to use Metamorphosis or Font Monger to create editable files. Furthermore, phi*JaMaCon associates retains all current and future commercial rights and other rights for all distributed ProtoType™.
Informal Oblique is the Type 1 version of Slant Informal and replaces it in public distribution. Thus, the shareware fee of $15.00 for Slant Informal has now been waived, and I will no longer (23 Sep 1990) supply disks for Slant or any ProtoType™. Slant was originally designed for informal correspondence and general every-day printing. The Type 1 font refinement allows better rendering at small type sizes, and is much closer to the original design intent than the Type 3 rendering allowed.

•Notes: The type 1 version will work with ATM, but rendering of Informal Oblique at small (<12 point) sizes on screen is quite poor. The TrueType™ version is better at this, although neither version is esthetically pleasing. It should be noted that oblique or script typefaces are notoriously difficult to render on screen because of the limited bitmap resolution. At large (>24 points) both work well on screen. In any case, the print output is nearly identical with either version. Also note that you should use the _TT version only if you want TrueType™ and use the other version if you want Postscript™ output. This has to do with the different ways Adobe and Apple point to their outline files. (21 April 1991)
